Writers’ Residencies at Vermont Studio Center: Fellowship Applications close 15 February

Founded by artists in 1984, the Vermont Studio Center is the largest international artists’ and writers’ residency program in the United States. Each month the Center hosts over 50 writers and artists from across the country and around the world.

The residencies take place on a historic 30-building campus along the Gihon River in Johnson, Vermont, and run for between 2 and 12 weeks.

Each writing resident at the Vermont Studio Center receives:

  • A private studio in the Maverick Writing Studios building, including printer and wireless internet access
  • 24-hour access to the Mason House Library
  • A private room in modest, shared housing
  • All meals plus tea, coffee and cold beverages

Residencies at the Vermont Studio Center are offered based on a review of the portfolio or manuscript. Poets are asked to submit a maximum of 10 pages and other writers may submit up to 15 pages.

Applications are considered year-round on a rolling basis; however, applicants who wish to be considered for a fellowship that covers the full cost of a four-week residency must submit a fellowship application by one of three annual award deadlines.

The application deadlines are 15 February, 15 June and 1 October. Each deadline has different jurors with different tastes, so Vermont Studio Center encourages applicants to reapply if they don’t receive a fellowship award on their first attempt.

For further information about the application process visit the Vermont Studio Center website.
